The Witness

The day that changed her life

A beauty spot on Scotland’s east coast is where it started

The day begins innocently enough as Josie MacDonald, landscape artist, leaves her aunt’s house to walk the short distance to Spey Bay.  It’s early in the morning; the sun has just cleared the eastern horizon.  The light is perfect her surroundings peaceful so Josie finds the ideal spot and begins to paint.

Have you ever experienced a day so terrifying that it changed your life forever?

Josie had no idea what was waiting for her when she set out that morning or how the events of that fateful day would impact on her life and those of her friends.

The Witness, a psychological thriller guaranteed to excite you from the very first page.

The Witness, my second book, published in 2013 was my first attempt at writing a psychological thriller.  Since then I have written two more thrillers with some of the key characters appearing in both.  Josie gets a mention in all the books but has yet to feature again in a story of her own. (I have some ideas)!
The inspiration behind The Witness came sixteen years ago when visiting my sister who lived in a village close to Spey Bay.  One day we walked into the bay and I was struck by its natural beauty and wildlife.  The history of the place also interested me, there was evidence of ship building, salmon fishing and crofter life.  (The visitor centre also did a wonderful hot chocolate with marshmallows)!
I spotted an artist sitting on the bank painting a water colour of the old iron railway bridge spanning the River Spey.  This is when Josie MacDonald, my main character was born.  I knew that something terrible must happen in this beautifully peaceful place so my imagination took over and I knew I had the beginnings of a thrilling novel.
I was drawn in completely by Josie and the terrible events that followed her painting trip in Scotland.  At the time I was learning to paint and my subject was portraits so I decided to paint Josie.  The portrait brought Josie to life and the painting was used and the cover for the book.

Spey Bay is a small settlement in Moray, Scotland.  It is situated on the each coast where the River Spey flows into The Moray Firth.

Social media

Social media advertising.

I love this, my photo on a book.  It was put together by a well known social media site and I think it is fabulous.
Not sure about the title on the spine though! 😁

Just finished editing my latest novel.  The final edit?  I don't think so.  A little voice inside my head says read it again!

Al fresco

Breakfast in the garden for the first time this year.

Saturday was a perfect day in the south of England. Sunshine all day although a chilly wind, but in a quiet spot it was ideal.
Sunday was quite different. The first day of summer was disappointing, cloud cover, cold wind, quite cold.
Lets hope the weather continues to improve.
